 | Pressley Associatessuccessfully collaborated to design a spectacular landscape at the facility’s core that provides a unique healing environment for patients and their families. Worcester sits on seven hills in central Massachusetts. This medical center climbs the side of one of these hills and the sloping landscape in the atrium makes one feel as though the interior is part of the hills visible beyond the glass roof. The waterfalls, rock ledges and vegetation inside the Worcester Medical Center’s atrium disguise and cover a concrete tunnel that contains the Providence & Worcester Railroad. Sunshine streaming through the atrium reflects from the three-story waterfall, which cascades over sculpted rock formations. The award winning Worcester Medical Center is a wonderful example of the potential of interior landscape architecture.
