| Initial Concept | Pressley Associates prepared an historic inventory and comprehensive design recommendations for approximately 16 miles of the Shore Parkway in Brooklyn, NY.

| Lasting Impact | Robert Moses' vision for a comprehensive open space and transportation system for New York City included the construction of a 33-mile parkway along the south shore of Brooklyn into Queens. This Circumferential (Belt) Parkway, built from 1939-1941 and funded through the WPA, provided a scenic pleasure drive from Manhattan to Long Island; the section along Brooklyn's waterfront was known as the Shore Parkway. Pressley Associates, with McGinley Kalsow, prepared a Historic Inventory and Design Recommendations for the parkway, which re-establishes the parkway's historic character, maintains linkages to the adjacent parkland, and addresses transportation safety. Phase I and II of the design recommendations focus on ten land, water, and pedestrian bridges. The project received an Excellence in Design Award from the NYC Art Commission.
