 | Pressley Associates designed a regional park for the Metropolitan District Commission (now Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation) on an abandoned brownfield site at the Neponset River estuary in Boston.

 | Pope John Paul II Park is a keystone to the Neponset River Reservation. The landscape design emphasizes naturalistic landforms and native species plantings creating the feeling of a natural meadow amidst wetlands and a woodland edge. The park includes four contiguous irrigated multi-purpose athletic fields, a children’s play area, shelter structures, and picnicking areas, as well as walking and bicycling paths that connect to a regional trail network. The project engaged significant public interest due to the size and nature of the site, which presented unique challenges for environmental design, park development, and brownfield mitigation. This project has been awarded the 2002 Mass. Recreation and Park Association Design Award.
