Initial Concept | Pressley Associates, Inc. in association with SEA Consultants, Inc. redeveloped East Boston Piers 3, 4 and 5 as a passive park with a waterfront promenade, working in close cooperation with local community representatives and the Piers PAC group appointed by the Governor.
Lasting Impact | The park provides East Boston residents and visitors with direct harbor access and some of the most spectacular views available of downtown Boston. Landscape improvements include 600-foot long promenade, an amphitheater, a children's play area with spray fountain, a fitness area, surface treatments, site furnishings, lighting, and vegetation. A pavilion located adjacent to the children's area houses restrooms, storage space, and security operations. The project received an Adaptive Environments Award, a Brick Industry Association Brick Paving Design Award, the Massachusetts Horticultural Society Urban Landscape Award, an International Excellence on the Waterfront Award, and a Boston Society of Landscape Architects Design Award.
