| The City of Long Branch is investing in their waterfront by creating housing, restaurants, retail developments, and a new pier. The improvement of Ocean Boulevard is critical to this investment. The Boulevard is a four-lane, 70’-wide highway running parallel to the ocean, segregating the city from the waterfront. To overcome this obstacle, Pressley Associates and the Thompson Design Group designed enhancements to the Boulevard streetscape to reconnect the oceanfront to the rest of the community.
| The connection was achieved by enhancing the pedestrian access to the oceanfront through traffic calming measures such as brick crosswalks, raised speed tables, and decreasing the width and speed limit of the Boulevard. Pressley Associates created amenities throughout the redevelopment zone such as lush vegetation, benches, lighting, bicycle racks, wide sidewalks, and a multiuse path. The design team also worked with the City to create a hub for public transportation at the Pinsky Common triangle. | City of Longbranch, NJ
