| Initial Concept | A one-acre green roof over a new parking garage facilitates access to and from the upper levels of the new Science Center and the new Graduate Student Housing. The new green roof provides an intimate green space for students and visually integrates the new complex into the campus.

| Lasting Impact | Two curvilinear paths stretch between three roof levels, while an oval garden provides an intimate space separated from the foot traffic. Besides providing much needed open space to the campus, this green roof provides an insulating layer, which helps to keep heat in the garage and maintains a temperature in the summer 13 degrees cooler than the ground level. Lawn, shade trees, and plantings adjacent to the glass wall of the Behrakis Health Science Center not only reduce glare but actually boost the building's energy efficiency while reducing runoff. Our Northeastern work has won several awards.
