 | The Preservation Master Plan for the Newton City Hall and War Memorial Grounds documents the historic design intent and evolution of the landscape, evaluated existing conditions, and provided alternatives for landscape treatment, including a tree assessment by Bartlett Tree Experts.

 | The grounds of the Georgian Revival City Hall in Newton were designed in 1931-32 by Henry Hubbard, principal of the Olmsted Brothers firm. The award-winning design included three informal reflecting ponds in front of City Hall; simple, dignified planting of specimen elms and evergreen shrubs around the building; and carefully-managed views and vistas from the surrounding streets. The recommended Master Plan re-establishes the historic character of the site, while meeting the City's needs for public events and limited maintenance. The Master Plan provides a framework with priorities so the City can implement it in logical and cost-effective phases. The project was awarded the 2005 Partners in Excellence Award.
