| Pressley Associates, in a joint venture with Walmsley & Company, prepared a Master Plan for four of the parks in the Necklace. Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, Sr., and laid out in the 1890s, the Emerald Necklace comprises hundreds of acres of parkland and watercourse.
| The Emerald Necklace park system winds through diverse terrain and neighborhoods and provides an important greenspace for many city dwellers. This proximity to urban communities, and the number of public agencies involved, called for extensive public meetings, environmental compliance, and sensitive treatment of natural and cultural resources. The Master Plan focused on physical and aesthetic impacts; re-establishing Olmsted's passages of scenery and his separation of pedestrian and vehicular circulation; and creating practical ways to manage the parks. Since production of the Master Plan, Pressley has completed award-winning construction projects from 1989 to the present. | MA Dept of Conservation and Recreation, Boston MA for the Master Plan Boston Parks Department and Brookline Division of Parks and Open Space
