| C011A is the first completed section of the Central Artery surface restoration. These long-awaited improvements provide a glimpse into the future for a city that has been under construction for over a decade. The project consists of surface restoration along Atlantic Avenue from the Federal Reserve Bank to Congress Street, including site improvements over the new tunnel.
| Large street tree plantings create a verdant effect that gives the city streets a pedestrian-friendly feel. The new trees were planted in high-tech, irrigated channels to ensure their long-term success. Brick and granite pavement, new street furniture, and street lights, as well as specialty paving in crosswalks, give the new Atlantic Avenue an established, downtown Boston character. The success of the project was also enhanced through effective coordination with the construction of the underground tunnel work and ventilation shafts, MBTA, the bus terminal, as well as the adjoining parcels. | Seely Stevenson/DeLew Cather
