 | Pressley Associates created a green oasis in an urban environment, with a light and airy atmosphere that melds inside with outside.

 | 245 Summer Street is located in the heart of downtown Boston adjacent to historic South Station. The western plaza serves as the front door opening directly to the street and train platforms of South Station. Monumental granite stairs create a sculptural quality, while a pedestrian ramp facilitates smooth, integrated movement. The ground floor of the building, with floor to ceiling windows, utilizes the same granite paving as the exterior, and interior planters reflect the landscape beyond. Outside planters are extrapolations of the interior floor pattern with plantings that overflow and soften their raised edges. The interplay of pavement with stone boulders furthers the notion of an oasis. On the executive level above, a green roof provides a foreground to views of Boston's harbor and skyline. A planting mix of sedum plantings mimics the flow of the ocean. Pressley Associates won the 2007 BSLA Merit Award for Urban Design for 245 Summer Street.
